Political Leaders

George Manuel is an influential ingenuous politician, born a true leader in 1921, Manuel assumed many leadership roles in his lifetime. Such roles include the Chief of the Shuswap people. The president of the North American Indian Brotherhood of BC, and the first president of the World Council of Indigenous Peoples.
Manuel’s accomplishments have created a platform for indigenous rights activists, as he “was instrumental in bringing about the Universal Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.” (Union of British Columbia Indian Chiefs)
The most important topics of interest throughout his career, included inspiring others “into action” (Union of British Columbia Indian Chiefs), to work to gain control over their children, their health, their resource use, their government, and most importantly their future.”
